Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)

Keep food fresher for longer by extending its shelf-life using MAP.

What is Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)?

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is a technology used to extend the shelf life of perishable products, such as food, by altering the composition of the internal atmosphere within the packaging. This process involves reducing the amount of oxygen and replacing it with other gases like carbon dioxide and nitrogen.

Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) gives food a longer shelf life

When food is packaged in modified air (MAP), the air inside the package is replaced with a specific mixture of gases. This method is primarily used to protect and extend the product’s shelf life.

The shelf life of perishable products can increase up to 4-5 times using gas compared to products packed in regular air.

Examples of products that are packed in modified atmosphere packaging:

MEAT - minced meat, cold cuts, bags of meat products such as sausages

FISH - fresh fish, fish cakes, prawns not in brine

VEGETABLES - salad bags, ready-made salads

BAKED GOODS - bread products, half-baked bread, baguettes, rolls

OTHER - in the bottleneck of products such as juices, cod liver oil and oils, on top of sour cream, cheese, ready-made cheese slices, grated cheese, cheese equivalents, beer, carbonated mineral water, cider and carbonated water, wine
